So the music world is blowing up right now over this music video for Avril Lavigne's "Hello Kitty." Take a look.
Most are calling it the worst thing ever and severely racist towards Japanese culture. Okay, look, I'm not a fan of Avril at all for a bunch of reasons including the fact that she married one of the worst people on the planet, but is this video really that bad? I mean I hate the song and it is proof that a good drop can't save a terrible melody/voice but it's not the first time a white female has taken on Japanese Harajuku culture for the sake of pop music. Does anyone remember Gwen Stefani?
And, yes, the Skrillex hair and Katy Perry circa 2010 clothes are horrid but is it really the worst thing ever? It's not original, that's for sure, but not much in pop music is these days. I say this video isn't really worth discussion because it isn't groundbreaking in any way much less in any offensive way.
